Basildon Bowl once again opened its doors for a Team England ranking event the 3rd Essex Open.
40 bowlers made the journey to compete for the T/E ranking points available.
All bowlers bowled a 6 game qualifying block with the top 16 men and 8 ladies going on to round 2 pinfall carried forward.
Round 2 saw the 24 bowlers bowl a further 4 games with the top 10 men and top 6 ladies moving forward the round robin pinfall carried forward.
In the mens Dominic Barrett was top by 150 pins (his 300 game in qualifying helped) with John Wells second.
Matt Chamberlain bowled games of 221, 248, 276, 247, 190, 279, 194 and 235 puting him just 37 pins behind leader Dominic Barrett going onto the last game.
Dom had the bit between his teeth for the last game rolling a 278 and winning by 100 pins from Matt who could only manage a 215 in his last game.
Autumn Chamberlian was leading going into the Round Robin with Laura Ivory in second.
Alison Taylor rolled games of 221, 210, 227 and 187 to move her into 2nd place going into the last game, Autumn still leading by 70 pins.
Autumn could only manage a 187 and losing so no bouns, Alison shoots a 247 wins the game gets a 20 pin bonus and wins by 10 pins overall.
12 Teams attended the first Handicap Combo 5's tournament at Basildon Bowl, some teams coming as far as Exeter and Cheltenham.
A long days bowling lay ahead the first team event started at 10am 3 games bowled L.P.S.A. Rollrite lead the way 3204.
A stop for a lane dress then on we go next up the Doubles Pocket Line winning this with 1287, onto the Trios; R&R Turkey Hunters with a 1886 just piping Run It Out 1871. Time for a break and another lane dress.
All bowlers took to the lanes for the last 3 games in the 2nd team event, L.P.S.A. could only manage a 891, Pocket Pro Shop shooting 1001 to close the gap, Pocket Pro Shop shoots 1061 and takes the lead finishing with a 1007 keeps them in top spot.
A long but enjoyable days bowling had come to an end with nearly £1000.00 in the prize fund all we had to do was wait for Keith Boyden the tournament manager to sort the scores and placings out, with monies for Doubles, Trios, Team and Overall and an optional scratch entry lets see who won.
